Professional Dog Training
Mellor Dog School is run by Hayley, who is a fully qualified instructor with many years of experience. Qualified with Distinction, in Animal Behavioural studies through Myerscough Agricultural College, Canine Reactive Behaviour Diploma and Security Guard dog handler NASDU Level 3 certificate. Hayley ensures that owners and their dogs enjoy training, whilst receiving the best possible advice and guidance. We cover all aspects, from puppies to adult dogs which includes Canine Reactive Behaviour. We offer advice on nutrition and feeding regimes, house training and health issues.
We use Marker Training which is a verbal marker followed by a reward, which we have found bridges the gap between humans and dogs. Hayley offers one to one sessions or group classes (see Timetable)
It is so important to create a bond between you and your dog. Establishing boundaries, equivalent to pack structure in most animals, will make for greater harmony in your household.
Please welcome our new recruit, Simon Harwood. Simon has recently retired from Lancashire Police as a Police Dog instructor. He has nearly 30 years experience and we are very excited that he has joined our team. This means that we have 2 fully qualified instructors on hand for all classes, to ensure you and your dog get our full attention.
The classes are devised to be fun, encouraging you and your dog to work together, and have a better bond.
Mellor Dog School is established at Huntley's Country Stores, along the A59 near to BAE Systems at Mellor Brook. We have a covered venue with a new surface laid down with Astra Turf, so don't worry about the weather.
We have a variety of classes, including evening and daytime classes, please see our classes timetable
for full details
The school is set up for all breeds and ages of dog and is suitable for all levels of ability. With group classes or one to one lessons, there is a type of dog and puppy class suitable for everyone.
So whatever age or ability of your dog, we have a class suited to their needs, be it one to one sessions, puppy, any age, advanced, sheepdog, gun dog classes or aggression issues.
Please note, Saturday classes do not require pre booking.
We currently find the two classes at 10am and 1pm are adequate, but we will revise these times if necessary.
We also have puppy classes on Tuesdays at 11am and 7.30pm and Wednesdays at 7pm.
Gun Dog Classes
We are now offering the opportunity for dogs to participate in our gun dog classes. These are fun and encouraging for your dog. Its a great way to keep your dog entertained and stimulated. It is a way to achieve obedience through play and being able to use your dog for what its bred for as they do become bored when they aren't able to express themselves.
Although your dog may be just a pet, if he/she is a gun dog breed it can be very beneficial to exercise their brain as well as their body. They often need more stimulation than just exercise alone. So if they can retrieve a ball, gundog classes may be for you and your dog. It is so rewarding to see how much enjoyment they get out of it.
One to One Classes
These are highly recommended for dog owners with particular issues that need addressing or merely `starting out` with their dog.
It is useful to know that dog owners will only require a single one to one lesson with Hayley! She will explain how we can bridge the gap between humans and dogs, rather than viewing it from a human’s perspective.
